Cookie Policy

1. What cookies and browser storage are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Browsers also offer two kinds of storage that work like cookies but are never sent automatically: local storage, which stays until it is cleared, and session storage, which is wiped when you close the tab. This site uses all three, mostly the last two. This page lists every item, what it does, whether it is essential and how long it lasts.

2. How this site uses them

The site is a set of static pages with a quote form and the Captain Levi chat assistant. It uses browser storage for four things:

  • Making the site work (essential): your text-size setting, your cookie choices, keeping the chat conversation while you move between pages, carrying a draft from chat to the quote form, remembering your request's reference number, and the server's session for chat and rate limiting.
  • Security (essential): the Cloudflare Turnstile bot check on the quote form.
  • Analytics (optional, off until you allow it): a random session id so we can count page views and form and chat usage on our own server.
  • Embedded content (optional, off until you allow it): the Google Map on the contact page.

There are no advertising cookies, no social-media pixels, no cross-site tracking and no Google Analytics on this site.

cf_clearance, __cf_bm and similarCookie (set by Cloudflare)Cloudflare Turnstile uses these to tell real visitors from bots when you use the quote form. Names and lifetimes are set by Cloudflare.Yes (security)Minutes to hours, set by Cloudflare
Google Maps cookiesCookie (set by Google)Set by Google when the embedded map on the contact page loads. The map only loads after you allow Embedded content. Names and lifetimes are set by Google. No (Embedded content)Set by Google; some last months

Google Fonts, which every page loads, does not set cookies, but your browser does send your IP address to Google to fetch the font files. This is described in the Privacy Policy.

4. Third-party services

  • Cloudflare Turnstile (bot protection on the quote form): script from challenges.cloudflare.com. Cloudflare privacy policy.
  • Google Maps (contact page, only after you allow embedded content) and Google Fonts (all pages). Google privacy policy.

The chatbot sends your messages to Anthropic's Claude API through our server; that does not involve cookies on your device and is covered in the Privacy Policy.

5. Changing your choices

On your first visit a banner offers three options: Allow all, Essential only, or Customize, where you can switch Analytics and Embedded content on or off separately. Essential items cannot be switched off because the form, chat and security checks need them.

You can change your mind at any time. Every page has a "Cookie Preferences" button in the footer; it reopens the same banner with your current choices filled in. Saving new choices takes effect immediately on the next page you load. Turning Analytics off stops new events from being sent; it does not delete events already recorded, which are kept as described in the Privacy Policy. The contact page also has a "Show map" button that allows embedded content for the map only.

6. Browser controls

Your browser can block or delete cookies and site storage for this site or for all sites. Look under Settings, then Privacy or Site data, in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge. If you block storage for this site, the text-size setting and cookie choices will not be remembered, the chat will reset on each page, and the quote form's bot check may not pass. Clearing site data also deletes your saved choices, so the banner will appear again.

7. Changes to this policy

If we add, remove or rename a storage item or third-party service, we will update the table and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
