What Are Engine & Rigging
Access Modifications?

Engine and rigging access modifications involve cutting, reinforcing, and fabricating custom hatches, panels, or lids to improve access to your engines, rigging, fuel systems, and other components.
We create solutions that make routine maintenance easier,

Larger Engine Hatches

More room for service
and maintenance.

A hatch that’s too small turns simple jobs like changing filters or reaching the back of an engine into a struggle. We check what runs under the deck first, including stringers, fuel and water lines and wiring, then cut the larger opening, frame its edges with fiberglass, and build a matching lid to fit.

Removable Access Panels

Custom panels for rigging,
fuel systems, and more.

Some components sit behind fixed fiberglass with no practical way in, so every service call starts with cutting or unbolting something. We add a framed, reinforced opening and a removable panel right where you need access, sealed with a gasket where it needs to stay dry and finished to match the surrounding deck or console.

Upgrade Hardware

Install latches, hinges,
and gas struts.

Worn hinges, sticky latches and lids that won’t stay up make access a two-person job. We fit marine-grade stainless hinges, latches and pulls, and size the gas struts to the weight of each lid so it opens easily and holds open while you work.

Rigging Access

Easy access to wiring,
steering, and control systems.

Wiring runs, steering cables and throttle and shift controls are often buried inside the console or under the deck, which makes troubleshooting slow. We plan an opening where it gives the best reach, reinforce the cutout so the structure stays strong, and fit a panel or hatch that closes up clean.

Custom Layouts

Built to match your boat’s
layout and needs.

Every boat is laid out differently, so we start by measuring and talking through what you service most often. From there we can combine hatches, panels and hardware into one plan, with each opening framed and reinforced, sealed where it needs to stay dry, and finished in gelcoat to match your boat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you add a larger engine hatch to my boat?

In most cases, yes. We check what’s under the deck first (stringers, fuel and water lines, wiring), then cut the larger opening, reinforce its edges, and build a matching hatch lid to fit it.

Will the modification affect the strength of my deck?

Not when it’s done right. We frame the new opening with fiberglass and, where needed, extra core or stringer support, so the deck around the hatch is as strong as it was before the cut.

What type of hardware do you use?

Marine-grade stainless hinges, latches, pulls and gas struts, plus gaskets and drain channels where a hatch needs to stay dry. We size the struts to the weight of each lid so it opens easily and stays up.

Can you match my boat’s gelcoat and style?

Yes. We tint the gelcoat to your boat as it looks today and finish the hatch edges, lids and any non-skid to blend in with the rest of the deck.

How long does an access modification take?

A new access panel is often done in a few days. A larger engine hatch or a full custom layout usually takes one to a few weeks, because the laminate and gelcoat need time to cure between stages. We’ll give you a timeline with your quote.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the size of the opening, the reinforcement it needs and the hardware you choose. Send us a few photos and we’ll give you a free, no-obligation quote.
