1. Who we are

This website is operated by Boat Yard Captain Levi's LLC, doing business as Captain Levi's ("we", "us"), a fiberglass boat repair yard at 11600 66th St N, Largo, FL 33773 serving Pinellas County and Tampa Bay. Reach us at 727-391-7639 or captainlevis@yahoo.com.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers the website only; repair work is covered by the written estimate you sign with us. The site has no customer accounts, online store or newsletter, so what we collect comes from three places: things you type or upload, the chatbot, and a small amount of technical data your browser sends.

3. Quote and contact forms

When you send a quote or contact request we collect what you put in the form: name, email address, phone number, the service you need, your boat's make, model and year, where the boat is, your message and, if you choose, up to five photos (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB each). We also record which page you sent it from and give it a random reference number.

  • The request goes to our own server and is stored in our business database.
  • A copy is emailed to captainlevis@yahoo.com through an email delivery service, so Yahoo Mail and that service also hold a copy.
  • Photos go to private cloud storage. They are not public; staff open them through links that expire after a short time.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you are not a bot before the form is accepted (see section 5).
  • If you chatted with Captain Levi during the same visit, the chat's random session id is attached to your request so the crew can read what you already told the chatbot.

Please do not put passwords, account numbers or other sensitive details in the form.

4. The Captain Levi chatbot

"Captain Levi" on this site is an AI assistant, not a person. When you use it:

  • Your messages, the page you are on, and any photos you attach are sent to our server.
  • Our server sends the conversation to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a reply. Anthropic processes it under its own privacy policy.
  • We may store transcripts and attached photos so a real crew member can follow up. Transcripts are tied to a random session id, not an account; if you submit the quote form in the same visit, that id is attached to your request, which links the transcript to your name and contact details.
  • During your visit the conversation is kept in your browser's session storage so it survives moving between pages; it is cleared when you close the tab.

The chatbot can make mistakes and cannot commit us to a price; anything it says about cost or timing is general information, not a quote (see our Terms of Use). Please do not share health information, financial account numbers, government ID numbers or other sensitive details in chat. If you need to tell us something sensitive, call us.

5. Information collected automatically

Hosting and server logs

The site is served through a hosting platform (currently GitHub Pages; we plan to move to Vercel). Hosting providers routinely log the IP address, requested page, time, browser type and referring site for security and operations. Our own server also logs requests to the form, upload, chat and analytics endpoints and uses the IP address to limit abuse.

Fonts

Pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Your browser fetches those files directly from Google, so Google receives your IP address, as described in its privacy policy. We may self-host the fonts in future, which would remove this request.

Bot protection

Cloudflare Turnstile protects the quote form from automated abuse. It loads a script from challenges.cloudflare.com and may set a Cloudflare cookie. It is essential to keeping the form open, so it does not depend on your cookie choices. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Analytics (only if you allow it)

If you allow "Analytics" in the cookie banner, the site records a small set of events to our own server: page views (page title and the domain of the site that referred you, if any), which service pages you look at, quote-form starts and submissions, chat opens, and clicks on our phone number. Each event carries a random session id that lives in your browser only for that browsing session. There is no cross-site tracking, no advertising pixel and no Google Analytics. If you choose "Essential only", nothing is recorded.

Embedded map

The contact page can show a Google Map of our yard. It only loads after you allow "Embedded content" in the cookie banner; until then the page shows a plain link instead. When it loads, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies under Google's privacy policy.

Browser storage

The site stores a few small items in your browser (text-size preference, cookie choices, the chat conversation, a draft handed from chat to the form, the analytics session id and your last reference number). The Cookie Policy lists each one, what it is for and how long it lasts.

6. How we use information

  • To respond to you, inspect and quote the work, and schedule and carry out repairs.
  • To run the chatbot and let a crew member follow up on what you discussed.
  • To keep business records of inquiries, estimates and completed work, including for tax and insurance purposes.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
  • To see which services visitors look for, if you allow analytics.

We email you only in reply or about work you have asked about. We do not send marketing email and do not sell or rent personal information.

7. Who we share it with

Only with the providers that make the site work and with people involved in your repair:

  • Hosting and storage: our hosting platform, database and private photo storage (currently GitHub Pages; Vercel and Vercel Blob planned).
  • Email: an email delivery service (Resend planned) and Yahoo Mail, which hosts our mailbox.
  • AI replies: Anthropic (Claude API) for chatbot conversations.
  • Security: Cloudflare (Turnstile).
  • Google: fonts on every page, and the map on the contact page if you allow it.
  • Insurance carriers and adjusters: if your repair is an insurance claim, we share photos, estimates and related details with your carrier at your request or as the claim requires.
  • Legal and safety: if required by law, a court order, or to protect our rights, property or safety.

Staff read inquiries, photos and chat transcripts through an internal dashboard that requires a login and is restricted to authorized staff.

8. How long we keep it

These periods are our proposed schedule and are being confirmed:

  • Inquiries, estimates and related correspondence: kept as business records, currently proposed at 7 years, in line with typical Florida business-record and tax retention.
  • Chat transcripts: 12 months, or longer if they are attached to an inquiry or estimate.
  • Uploaded photos: as long as the related inquiry or estimate is kept.
  • Analytics events: 24 months.
  • Server and security logs: as set by the hosting provider, typically days to weeks.

9. Security

The site uses HTTPS, private photo storage with expiring links, a login-protected staff dashboard, rate limiting and bot protection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise information will never be accessed without authorization, but we aim to protect it in ways that fit a business of our size.

10. Your choices and rights

Whoever you are, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you;
  • correct it;
  • delete it, where we are not required to keep it as a business record;
  • give you a copy of the information you provided to us.

Email captainlevis@yahoo.com or write to Boat Yard Captain Levi's LLC, 11600 66th St N, Largo, FL 33773. We will ask for enough information to confirm you are the person the data is about and will normally reply within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for asking.

You can change your analytics and embedded-content choices at any time with the "Cookie Preferences" button in the footer. Florida has no general consumer privacy law that applies to a business of our size, and we are below the thresholds of laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, but we aim to honor reasonable requests from anyone.

11. If you are in the EU or UK

We are a Florida boat yard serving local customers and do not market to people in the EU or UK. If you visit from there anyway, in GDPR terms: we process form and chat data to take steps at your request before a contract (Article 6(1)(b)); analytics and the embedded map only with your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw through the footer's "Cookie Preferences" button; and security logging and business records under our legitimate interests and legal obligations (Articles 6(1)(f) and 6(1)(c)). You would have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. Data you send us is processed in the United States. Contact us as above to exercise these rights.

12. Children

This site is for boat owners and businesses and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

When we change how the site works, for example by moving hosts, self-hosting fonts or adding a service provider, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top.
