Kayak Repair · Largo & Tampa Bay

Fiberglass Kayak Repair, Done Like a Boat.

Kayaks built from fiberglass and composites need the same professional repair techniques as larger vessels. Small cracks, worn keels, seam leaks and punctured hulls all compromise safety and performance. Captain Levi’s has the shop and boat yard space to repair your kayak properly and send it back to the water at full strength.

Common Kayak Repair Issues

What We Fix on Fiberglass Kayaks

Fiberglass and composite kayaks are light and fast, and that thin laminate shows wear quickly. These are the problems that come through the yard.

Gelcoat Chips & Scratches

Cosmetic damage from rocks, racks and launches, filled and color-matched.

Cracked Seams & Leaking Joints

The hull-to-deck seam opens up over time; we reseal and relaminate it.

Hull Punctures & Breaches

Impact holes rebuilt with new fiberglass so the hull is watertight and strong again.

Worn Keel Areas

Keels dragged over shorelines and ramps wear thin; we build them back up.

UV Damage & Chalky Oxidation

Florida sun dulls the gelcoat. Compounded, polished and protected.

Delamination & Soft Spots

Layers that have separated are cut back and relaminated to restore stiffness.

How We Repair a Kayak

Small Hull. Same Standards.

Captain Dave and the crew repair kayaks with the same materials and sequence used on the boats in the yard.

  1. 1

    Grind & Clean

The damaged area is ground back to sound laminate and cleaned thoroughly.

  2. 2

    Laminate

New fiberglass fabrics wet out with epoxy or vinyl ester resin rebuild the hull.

  3. 3

    Fair with Epoxy Filler

Epoxy filler adds strength and brings the surface back to a fair shape.

  4. 4

    Gelcoat, Color-Matched

New gelcoat sprayed or brushed and matched to blend with the kayak hull.

  5. 5

    Wet Sand & Polish

Wet sanded, buffed and polished to a smooth, even finish.

  6. 6

    Skid Plates on Request

Protective skid plates or reinforcement strips added where the kayak takes the most wear.
