Structural Fiberglass Repair

Fiberglass Boat Deck
Repair That’s Built to Last.

Soft spots, delamination, wet core and damaged fiberglass can turn a solid deck into a structural problem. Captain Levi’s repairs and rebuilds fiberglass boat decks across Tampa Bay.

Our Deck Repair Services

Boat Deck Problems Don’t Always Start at the Surface.

Deck damage can involve cracked laminates, delamination, wet or deteriorated core, soft spots, flexing, impact damage, failed bonding and water intrusion. We inspect the entire structure and repair the root of the problem — not just the visible surface — to ensure a strong, long-lasting repair.

Soft Spot Repair

Find and repair soft or spongy areas caused by water intrusion or damaged core.

A soft spot usually starts where water got in around a hatch, cleat or fitting and soaked the core beneath the deck skin. We test the area to see how far the damage runs, open the top skin, remove the wet core back to dry material, and rebuild with new core and fiberglass before refinishing the surface.

Deck Delamination

Repair delaminated fiberglass laminates and restore structural integrity.

Delamination is when the fiberglass layers, or the skin and the core, pull apart, often from impact, flexing or water working in. You may see the deck lifting or hear it sound hollow when tapped. We cut away the separated laminate, check the core underneath, and re-laminate with marine fiberglass fabrics and epoxy or vinyl ester resin.

Wet / Rotten Core

Remove and replace wet or deteriorated core with marine grade materials.

Deck cores are usually wood or foam, and once water reaches them through an unsealed fitting or crack, wood rots and foam can lose its bond to the skins. We open the deck, remove all wet or deteriorated core back to dry, sound edges, and bond in new marine-grade core before re-laminating the skin.

Fiberglass Deck Rebuild

Rebuild damaged decks with new core, fiberglass laminates and proper bonding.

When damage covers a larger section of deck, spot repairs no longer make sense. We remove the failed area down to the framing, install new core, laminate it with marine fiberglass fabrics and bond it properly to the structure beneath, then fair it and finish with gelcoat or non-skid to match the rest of the deck.

Deck Replacement

Full deck replacement for severely damaged or unsafe decks.

If the core is rotten across most of the deck, or the deck flexes enough to be unsafe underfoot, replacing it is usually the lasting fix. We remove the old deck, inspect the stringers and supports underneath, build a new deck with fresh core and laminate, and finish it with gelcoat, non-skid and refitted hatches.

Our Repair Process

We Repair the Structure —
Not Just the Surface.

A proven step-by-step process using marine-grade materials to ensure a strong, durable, long-lasting repair.

  1. 1

    Inspect & Diagnose

We inspect the deck, core and structural components to find the real problem.

  2. 2

    Remove Damaged Material

We carefully remove failed fiberglass, core and contaminated areas.

  3. 3

    Rebuild the Laminate

New core (as needed) and marine fiberglass fabrics bonded with epoxy or vinyl ester resin.

  4. 4

    Fair, Finish & Restore

We fair the deck, apply gelcoat or non-skid, and finish for a clean, factory-quality look.

What’s Under Your Deck Matters.

A strong deck is more than gelcoat. We repair and replace core material, fiberglass laminates and bonding systems using marine-grade materials like epoxy or vinyl ester resin, fiberglass fabrics and high-density core to restore strength and prevent future problems.

Before & After Deck Repairs

Real repairs. Real results. Stronger, safer decks built to last.

Left: a deck opened up around a failed hatch. Right: the same area rebuilt with a new flush hatch. BEFORE AFTER
Left: rotten core exposed across a deck. Right: the deck framing rebuilt with new core. BEFORE AFTER
Left: a cracked, stained deck. Right: the deck refinished with new hatches and clean non-skid. BEFORE AFTER

  • Deck flexing underfoot
  • Cracks around hatches, hardware or seams
  • Visible delamination or lifting fiberglass
  • Water intrusion or persistent moisture
  • Wet or damaged core (wood or foam)
