What is a Seating Base

Fiberglass Seat Base Repair

Fix cracks, breaks, and
water damage.

Seat bases crack at corners, hinge points and where they’re fastened to the deck, and once water gets in, any wood core inside starts to rot. We grind out the cracked or broken fiberglass, cut out and replace wet core so the crack doesn’t come back, rebuild with new laminate, and refinish in gelcoat to match.

Leaning Post Repair

Reinforce or rebuild leaning posts and support structures.

A leaning post gets pushed, pulled and leaned on every time the boat moves, so its base and mounting points can loosen or crack over time. If yours wobbles or shows cracks around the base, we check the post and the deck beneath it, reinforce or rebuild the weak areas, and remount it so it’s solid again.

Storage Integration

Add or repair storage compartments and hatches.

Seat bases and leaning posts often have unused room inside for tackle, a cooler or gear. We can cut in a new compartment with a hatch, or repair a cracked or leaking one, adding a gasketed lid and marine hardware so it stays dry and closes cleanly, finished in gelcoat to match.

Custom Seat Bases

New custom seating bases built to fit your boat.

Whether you’re replacing a base that’s beyond repair or changing your layout, a new seat base can be built to the height, footprint and storage you want. We fabricate it in marine-grade fiberglass, add storage, cooler space or tackle drawers if you like, reinforce the mounting points and finish it to match your boat.

Mounting & Structural Support

Reinforce mounting areas and add structural support.

Seats, posts and pedestals put a lot of leverage on a small patch of deck, and over time the fasteners loosen, the fiberglass cracks or water gets into the core. We repair the area, add a backing plate or extra laminate where the loads go in, and seal the fasteners so the mount stays tight and dry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you repair cracked or broken seating bases?

Yes. We grind out the cracked or broken fiberglass, rebuild it with new laminate, and refinish it in gelcoat. If water has soaked a wood core inside, we cut out the wet core and replace it so the crack doesn’t come back.

Do you build custom leaning posts or seat bases?

Yes. We build new seat bases, leaning posts and other onboard structures to fit your deck layout, with storage, cooler space, rod holders or tackle drawers built in if you want them.

Can you match the gelcoat color?

Yes. We tint the gelcoat to your boat as it looks today, including any fading, so the repair or new structure blends in with the rest of the boat.

Will the repair be as strong as the original?

It should be stronger. We bond new fiberglass to sound laminate and reinforce the areas that failed, such as mounting points, corners and hinge or latch areas, with marine-grade materials.

How long does a repair or custom build take?

A crack or corner repair is often done in a few days. A custom seat base or leaning post usually takes a few weeks, because the laminate and gelcoat need time to cure between stages. We’ll give you a timeline with your quote.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the size of the structure, the extent of the damage and any storage or hardware you add. Send us a few photos and we’ll give you a free, no-obligation quote.
