Hatches, Lids & Access Panels

What is a Hatch, Lid or
Access Panel Repair?

Hatches, lids, and access panels allow you to reach essential components like storage, batteries, fuel systems, and plumbing. Over time, they can crack, leak, become loose, or suffer delamination. We repair damaged fiberglass, replace hardware, rebuild lids, or fabricate new custom panels to ensure a proper fit, watertight seal, and long-lasting durability.

Fiberglass Hatch Repair

Fix cracks, delamination, and impact damage.

Hatch lids get stepped on, slammed and baked in the sun, so cracks at the corners and hinge points are common, and a wet core can make a lid sag or delaminate. We grind out the damage, rebuild the laminate with new fiberglass and refinish in color-matched gelcoat. If a lid isn’t worth saving, we’ll tell you.

Hatch Replacement

Install new OEM or custom hatches and lids.

When a lid is warped, rotted through or simply no longer made, replacing it is often the better move. We can fit a new OEM-style hatch or build a custom fiberglass lid to suit the opening, then match it to your boat’s gelcoat and non-skid and set it up so it closes evenly.

Hardware Replacement

Hinges, latches, locks, and gas struts.

Salt air corrodes hinges and latches, and screws work loose until the mounting holes strip out. We replace worn hardware with marine-grade stainless, repair stripped or cracked mounting points in the fiberglass so the new hardware stays tight, and adjust everything so the lid closes evenly.

Gasket & Seal Installation

Keep water out with new marine-grade seals.

Old gaskets flatten, crack and shrink, and once they do, rain and washdown water drip straight into the compartment below. We remove the old seal, clean the channel and fit a new gasket, then check how the lid sits in its frame and adjust it so it closes evenly before we test for leaks.

Custom Access Panels

Storage, electrical, fuel, livewell and more.

If you need to reach a pump, battery switch or fuel fitting that’s sealed behind fiberglass, a new access panel saves a lot of frustration. We cut and frame the opening, build a fiberglass panel or door to fit it, add hardware and a gasket where it needs to stay dry, and finish it to match.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you repair a cracked hatch lid?

Usually, yes. We grind out the crack, rebuild the laminate with new fiberglass, and refinish the lid in color-matched gelcoat. If the lid is badly delaminated or the core is rotten, we’ll tell you whether a new lid will cost less than the repair.

Do you replace hinges, latches, and gas struts?

Yes. We replace worn or corroded hinges, latches, locks, pulls and gas struts with marine-grade stainless hardware, and repair stripped or cracked mounting points so the new hardware stays tight.

Can you match my existing hatch or make a custom one?

Both. We can rebuild your existing lid, fit a new OEM-style hatch, or fabricate a custom fiberglass lid or access panel to fit the opening, finished to match your boat’s gelcoat and non-skid.

Will the repair be watertight?

That’s the goal of every job. We check how the lid sits in its frame, fit new gaskets and seals, adjust the hardware so the lid closes evenly, and check for leaks before we hand the boat back.

How long does a hatch repair take?

A hardware or gasket replacement is often done in a day. Fiberglass repairs and new custom lids take longer, because the laminate and gelcoat need time to cure between stages. We’ll give you a timeline with your quote.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the size of the hatch, the damage, and whether we repair or replace it. Send us a few photos and we’ll give you a free, no-obligation quote.
