Smaller Rub Rail Scratches

Light scuffs and minor gelcoat scratches from docks, pilings and bumpers.

These are the marks from fenders rubbing, a bump against a piling or a tight slip, and they usually stay in the top layer of gelcoat. We clean and check each one, wet sand the shallow scratches, fill any that need it, and polish the area back to a smooth, glossy finish.

Moderate Rub Rail Damage

Deeper gouges and chips, smoothed out for a like-new finish.

When a gouge breaks through the gelcoat, the fiberglass underneath is open to water and UV. We sand and feather the damaged area, rebuild it with marine-grade gelcoat to the original profile and color-match it to your hull, then wet sand and polish so the repair blends into the edge.

Corner & Edge Chips

Chips on sharp edges, corners and transitions.

Sharp corners and molded transitions chip easily from a glancing hit on a dock corner or the trailer, and the repair has to bring back the shape as well as the color. We build the chip up slightly proud, shape and sand it until the line matches the rest of the hull, then color-match and polish.

Trailer Damage

Scuffs and gouges from trailers, bunks and loading.

Trailer damage along an edge usually comes from a misaligned bunk, a guide post or the boat sliding sideways during loading. We check how deep each mark goes, rebuild any exposed fiberglass, restore the edge profile with color-matched gelcoat and polish it out. We’ll also point out worn bunks or guides so it doesn’t keep happening.

Waterline Edge Damage

Chips and scrapes along the waterline and rub rail from docking and wave action.

Damage at the waterline sits in or near the water, so moisture works into exposed fiberglass faster than it does higher up. The area has to be dry before we fill it, so the boat comes out of the water, on your trailer or lift or at our Largo yard. Then we rebuild, color-match and polish the edge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does edge and rub rail damage repair cost?

It depends on how long the damaged run is, how deep the chips go and whether the edge profile needs rebuilding. Send us a few photos through the form below or call 727-391-7639 for a free quote.

Will the repair be visible?

Our goal is that you can’t find it. We rebuild the edge to its original shape, then color match, wet sand and polish the repair so it blends into the surrounding gelcoat.

Can you match my boat’s existing gelcoat color?

Yes. We tint the gelcoat to your hull as it looks today, including any fading, so the repair matches the boat rather than the original factory chart.

How long does an edge repair take?

Small chips along an edge are often finished in a day. Longer runs, or edges that need the profile rebuilt, take longer to allow for cure time — we give you a timeline with the quote.

Can you repair rub rail damage below the waterline?

Yes, but the boat has to be out of the water so the repair can dry and cure. We can work on your trailer or lift, or haul the boat at our Largo boat yard.
